After SA20 Points Table league table for two consecutive seasons, MI Cape Town (MICT) made history when they won season three in spectacular fashion. The team’s turnaround was a result of strategic decisions, a revamped roster and the unwavering support from the management. Whether it was Ryan Rickleton’s opening stand with Rashid Khan, Brevis Neethling’s dazzling catches or Kagiso Rabada’s superb bowling, the Robin Peterson side was the best in the business.

It also marked a moment of truth for the Proteas. Apart from Keshav Maharaj’s blunder that was a consequence of a choke, no one else in the South African camp lost their head at any stage. In fact, it was a rare sighting of collective Proteas composure in the entire competition and it is a reason to be cheerful as a nation.

South Africa’s Premier T20 Showdown

The SA20 final is set for Saturday at the Wanderers and it will be a showpiece affair between defending champions Sunrisers Eastern Cape and MI CT. Despite the two teams being level on wins and bonus points, MICT will be favoured by the bookmakers.

The tournament uses a points-based system that ensures fairness and makes it exciting. A team earns four points for every win and can secure a bonus point if they finish with a net run rate that is 1.25 times higher than their opponents. The bonus point is an important aspect of the SA20 as it incentivises teams to not just win but do so in a dominant manner.
